Last week the photographic exhibition 𝗦𝗘𝗠(𝗲) was inaugurated at the Botanični vrt Univerze v Ljubljani, an original combination of art and science. Using the scanning electron microscope (SEM) to capture images of seeds, the author – Urška Klenovšek, student at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technologies in Ljubljana – created a series of photographs of seeds of endemic Slovenian plants, including also the SEEDFORCE species.
The images obtained with SEM allow us to explore the invisible world of seeds, highlighting details such as reliefs, consistencies and imperfections. The original photographs are in black and white, but the author colored them in post-production with colors chosen based on the appearance of the plant’s flowers.
