Experiments in Monfalcone

In the Cavana di Monfalcone (GO) ZSC at the end of last November, the University of Udine – in collaboration with the Biodiversity Service of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region – started an experiment with seeds and plants of Eleocharis carniolica to evaluate the influence of different levels of submergence and water stagnation on transplant performance and seed germination.

Of the 96 tufts divided into 6 plots – of which 2 on wet ground, 2 semi-submerged and 2 totally submerged – all took root without problems. This suggests that soaked soil is probably sufficient for the plant, without the need for complete submergence.

Investigations continue on the behavior of the seeds, which seems to be a little different…
