to reinforce, reintroduce and introduce 139 populations of 29 target species as appropriate in 76 Natura 2000 sites.<\/strong><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">&#8211; <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">to improve habitat quality <\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">in the 76 SCI\/SACs covering 450,250 ha, ensuring that each site can support a viable population of the target species by means of fencing, cutting grass, removing shrubs and trees, eradicating alien invasive species as appropriate for each target site and species, adopting international standards.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">&#8211; <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">to collect target species germplasm<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">, without affecting the natural reproductive potential of the donor population, process and store it for long-term conservation<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">&#8211; <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">to propagate target species<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">, producing a total of <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">no less than 50,000 individuals<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">, making use of the facilities at each partner&#8217;s site, including seed germination labs and nurseries.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">&#8211; <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">to monitor and maintain <\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">in each Natura 2000 site <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">optimal conditions for the survival<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\"> of the translocated material in partnership with the managing authorities.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">&#8211; to deliver in partnership with ISPRA (the technical services of the Ministry of the Environment) <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">guidelines and training<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\"> for the management of each Natura 2000 site to grant favorable conditions for the long-term survival of each target species.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">&#8211; <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">to develop long-term agreements<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\"> with the managing authorities of the 76 target SCI\/SACs to grant the long-term survival of each target species giving implementation to the existing national framework<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">&#8211; <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">to offer Italy an effective tool<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\"> to meet its contractual obligation and shortcomings <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">related to the infringement procedure<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\"> (2015\/2163).<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">&#8211; <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">to cure plant blindness<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\"> reaching out to the public to increase support for plant conservation, <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">highlighting flagship species unique to a specific territory<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\"> via websites, social media, printed matter and plant displays in key cities.<\/span><\/p><p><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">Additional objectives contributing to other EU policies are:<\/strong><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">&#8211; contribute to the Common Agricultural Policy, making sure RDF includes actions to conserve Habitats Directive species<\/span><\/p><p><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">&#8211;<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\"> <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">boost economic development in the plant production sector introducing native species as garden plants<\/strong><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">&#8211;
